Ricketts Named Honorable Mention CSCAA Scholar All-American

PROVIDENCE, RI - Former men's swimming standout Dan Ricketts
(Baltimore, MD) has been named an Honorable Mention CSCAA (College
Swimming Coaches Association of America) Scholar All-American for
the 2008-09 school year. Ricketts was won of 109 men's swimming
student-athletes across the country to earn this honor and one of
just eight from the Ivy League to be recognized as an Honorable
Mentions Scholar All-American.
A First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America, Ricketts was a
four-year letterwinner on the men's swimming and diving team. He
earned Second Team All-Ivy in the 100 free, placing second with a
Brown record time of 43.17. A 2009 Academic All-Ivy selection as
well, Ricketts broke three other Brown records in 2009, posting
times of 19.77 in the 50 free, 1:37.19 in the 200 free, and 47.04
in the 100 fly. He was also a member of two record-breaking relay
teams this year, as his 200 free relay team swam in 1:20.87 and his
400 medley relay team swam in 3:17.14. In addition to the records,
he has times that rank in Brown's all-time top 10 in the 100 back
(49.70 in 2008 is 2nd) and 200 fly (1:49.57 in 2007 is 5th). A
Mathematics-Computer Science concentrator with a 4.0 GPA, he has
also had success on the national level, qualifying for and
competing in the 2008 Olympic Trials in both the 100 free (30th
place finish) and 100 fly.
East spring, following the collegiate national championships in
each division, the CSCAA selects a distinguished group of
individual student-athletes to honor as individual Scholar
All-Americans. To earn recognition as an Individual CSCAA Scholar
All-American, each swimmer must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.5 and be
selected to participate in the NCAA Swimming and Diving
Championships. Swimmers with an NCAA "B" time and a 3.5 GPA earn
Honorable Mention status. Fewer than 6% of all collegiate swimmers
and divers receive recognition as an Individual CSCAA Scholar
All-American.
