Providence, RI - The 153rd renewal of the Brown-Rhode Island
basketball series will tip-off at the Pizzitola Sports Center on
Wednesday, November 18 starting at 7:30 p.m. It's
Brown's home opener after playing two games on the road,
while Rhode Island will make its season debut against the
Bears.
Brown (1-1) is coming off a 69-55 loss to ACC power Virginia Tech
on Sunday in Blacksburg, Virginia, in the first game of the Philly
Hoop Group Classic. The Bears won their season opening game against
St. Francis, 68-64, on 11/13.
After playing Friday evening in Brooklyn, NY, and traveling all
day Saturday to Blacksburg, Virginia, the Bears dropped a matinee
game to Virginia Tech, 69-55, on Sunday. Freshman Andrew McCarthy
scored a season high 14 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the field,
while senior Matt Mullery scored 13 points and freshman Matt Sullivan added 11 points.
Brown opened its season on Friday against St. Francis, and then
opened Virginia Tech's season on Sunday. Wednesday's
game against Rhode Island will be the season opener for the Rams
and Brown's home opening game.
Brown and URI will be meeting for the 153rd time in the series
that began in 1906-1907. Rhode Island holds a 100-52 series
advantage over the Bears and has won the last seven games between
the two teams, including a 76-74 decision last year at the Ryan
Center. Brown's last win over the Rams came in the 2001-2002
season when the Bears came away with a 91-76 victory at the
Pizzitola Sports Center.
