Jeffrey E. Nord '99
Sport: Track & Field
Year Inducted: 2014
Jeffrey Nord put together a complete four years of dominance as a member of the Brown track & field team, leaving his mark as not only the best jumper in school history, but one of the top championship performers in the history of the Ivy League.
A jump specialist, Nord started to set Brown records in the long jump as soon as he arrived on College Hill as a freshman, and steadily broke each of his records over the next four years. He now holds all of the Brown long jump records in both indoor and outdoor track & field. Nord’s crowning achievement was that he won four straight Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor long jump titles, encompassing seven straight long jump titles between the indoor and outdoor seasons, representing a career-long stint of supremacy around the league.
Nord captured his first Ivy long jump title at the 1996 Heptagonal Championships, where he won as a freshman with a leap of 24-09.25, setting the stage for an unprecedented four consecutive titles as the only four-time league champion in the history of the event. Nord’s winning jump of 25-11.00 ranks third all-time in meet history and is a Brown program record.
Nord, who served as a team captain for the 1997-98 indoor and outdoor seasons, holds both the Brown indoor long jump record (29-09.00) and the indoor facility record (24-03.25). Additionally, Nord set the school record in the 55-meter/60-yard high hurdles in 1999 and the record stood for seven years.
Nord earned his Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Southern California and currently owns a private practice specializing in couples counseling. He resides in Santa Monica, Calif. with his wife, Lora Cicconi, and their two children, Charlie and Leila.
