Nick Peterson
- Title:
- Assistant Coach
Nick Peterson enters his first season as an assistant coach for the Bears in 2025-26 after spending time as an assistant coach for the Navy Midshipmen in 2024-25.Â
Peterson was instrumental in preparing Navy's athletes for race day, working with them to improve their technique, mobility, and strength while continuously developing new training programs to help the athletes maintain their health throughout a physically demanding season. Nick also played a crucial role in recruiting.Â
Peterson comes to Brown as no stranger to Ivy League competition, having rowed for the Harvard Crimson from 1992 to 1995. While at Harvard, Peterson helped his crew secure a silver medal at the 1994 National Collegiate Rowing Championship and a fourth place finish in the Grand Final in the 1995 IRA National Championship.Â
In addition to his time in the Ivy League, Nick continues the trend of Brown crew coaches having international experience after rowing for the U.S. National Team and U.S. Olympic Team from 1998 to 2000. Peterson competed in the men's quadruple sculls in the 2000 Olympic Games, helping his crew finish seventh overall.
Nick spent some of his post-rowing days serving on the USRowing Board of Directors and its High Performance Committee from 2001 to 2005 and serving on the USOC Board of Directors from 2001 to 2004, as well as its Ethics Oversight Committee in 2001–2003. Peterson was also the Chair of the Governance Task Force for USRowing in 2004–2006 and 2014–2017.
