Christine Newcomb joined the women's rugby program as an assistant coach in October of 2018 and enters her fourth season with the program in 2021-22.
Her first year saw the Bears qualify for the NIRA 15s Quarterfinals and win Polar Bears 7s, while Brown reached the NIRA 15s Championship match in her second season (2019).
Newcomb came to College Hill from Appalachian State where she was the head coach of the women’s rugby team for two seasons. In her role, Newcomb planned and implemented four training sessions per week as well as the team’s strength and condition program.
Prior to Appalachian State, Newcomb was the head women’s coach at UNC Wilmington from 2012-16. Newcomb guided the team to an 8-2 record in 2014, improving from the program’s 0-5 mark in 2011. She also managed the team’s budget, fundraising, and community outreach efforts. In addition to her coaching responsibilities at UNCW, Newcomb was the co-founder of the UNCW Women’s Rugby Club (2010), the club president (2012-14) and vice president (2011-12).
She graduated from UNC Wilmington in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science.
