Brian Schneider, a former assistant coach with the Columbia women’s lacrosse program and the Yale men’s lacrosse team, recently completed his sixth season as an assistant coach with the Brown University women’s lacrosse team in 2021. He also serves as the Bears' defense and recruiting coordinator.
In his time at College Hill, 18 student-athletes have earned All-Ivy honors. The 2019 season saw the Bears lead the Ivy League in caused turnovers and rank in the top-15 nationally. The 2018 squad set program records for goals, points, draw controls and shots. Brown's defense averaged the fourth best goals against average and save percentage in the Ivy League in 2017 and posted a shutout, the program's second overall, versus Sacred Heart.
In his first season at Brown (2016), Schneider coached senior goalkeeper Victoria Holland, who finished the season with the fourth-best goals-against average in a season in program history. The Bears concluded 2016 third in the Ivy League in save percentage, fourth in saves per game and fourth in goals-against average.
Prior to Brown, Schneider served as an assistant coach with the Columbia University women’s team during the 2014 and 2015 seasons after working as an assistant coach with the Yale University men’s program for three seasons from 2011-13. He helped the Bulldogs win back-to-back Ivy League men’s lacrosse tournament titles in 2012 and 2013.
While at Columbia, Schneider mentored goalkeeper Kelsey Gedin who earned Second Team All-Ivy honors in 2015. Gedin led the Ancient Eight in both total saves (137) and saves per game (9.13).
During his time at Yale, Schneider focused his work on the team’s goalies and helped the Bulldogs make consecutive appearances in the NCAA Championship in 2012 and 2013. Yale reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament in 2013 and posted a 33-14 record over his three seasons.
A native of Rockville, Md., and a product of Georgetown Preparatory School, Schneider played collegiately as a goalie at Hofstra University from 2005-09. He earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Hofstra in 2009 and attained a master’s degree in print journalism from Northwestern University in 2010.
