2017-18: Competed in all five meets on the season ... Finished third in the 100 butterfly at Cornell ... Placed third in the 100 butterfly against Columbia and finished fourth in the 200 butterfly ... Came in third in the 100 butterfly and placed fourth in both the 50 freestyle and 200 butterfly at the Big Al Invite ... Won the 100 butterfly and placed fourth in the 200 butterfly versus MIT ... Won the 100 butterfly and came in second in the 200 butterfly at Yale.

2016-17: Finished 12th in the 100 butterfly at the Ivy League Championships ... Also competed in the 50 freestyle and the 200 butterfly at the Championships ... His 200 butterfly time of 1:47.65 was the fourth best all-time at Brown and his 100 butterfly time was ninth (48.37) ... Won the 100 butterfly against Cornell and Bryant/MIT ... Competed in all six meets on the season.

2015-16: Competed in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle at the Ivy League Championships ... Set a personal best in the 50 freestyle (20.76) at the Big Al Invite, also placed third in the 100 freestyle … Finished second in the 100 freestyle against UMass … Also appeared in meets against Yale, Harvard/Penn and Columbia.

Before Brown: Won a TISCA Championship … Earned a silver medal in the 100 fly at the Texas 6A State Finals as a senior … Won Region IV titles in 2014 and 2015 … Gained district championships as a sophomore, junior, and senior … Qualified for Summer Junior Nationals and Winter Nationals … Swam on the club level for Power for Life Aquatics … National Honor Society student.

Personal: William is the son of Un and Scott Steele … Has three siblings, Charles ’19, Andrew, and Anne; his twin, Charles, also swims at Brown … Born on January 15, 1997; born two minutes (and one day) after Charles at 25 weeks … Concentrating in Applied Mathematics-Economics.
