
No. 8 Open Sailing Finishes Second in New England Team Race Championship

The No. 8 open sailing team hosted the NEISA Open Team Race Championship at the Ted Turner '60 Sailing Pavilion at the Edgewood Yacht Club last weekend, closing out the event with 15-6 overall record for a second place finish. 100 total races were held over two full days of intense competition featuring the top 12 teams in New England.Â
Defending National Champion Harvard won the event with a 20-1 overall record, followed by Brown and Dartmouth. With the win, the Crimson received an automatic bid to the 2026 College Sailing Open Team Race National Championship at Tulane from April 23-25. The rest of the field from New England will be announced on Tuesday, April 14 by the College Sailing Selection Committee, with 10 at-large berths up for grabs.
The No. 3 women's sailing team finished second overall at the Yale Women's Team Race on Saturday with a 6-2 record, marking the sixth-straight weekend that the Bears have finished second in the major women's team race of the weekend. Brown fell to Harvard in a tiebreaker in the one day event.Â
The team will now shift its focus to the New England Women's Team Race Championship this weekend (April 11-12) at Tufts. The winning team will receive an automatic bid to the College Sailing Women's Team Race National Championship at Tulane from April 26-27. The women's field will also be announced on Tuesday, April 14 with six berths on the line.
The open sailing team also competed at the Mystic Lake Team Race at Tufts, finishing fourth out of eight teams. The Bears finished the event with a 7-7 overall record. Originally scheduled for two days, racing only took place on one of the days due to the lack of wind.Â
Up Next
The open sailing team will head to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn. for the 16-team Marchiando Team Race, the last regular season major team race event before the Team Race National Championships. The open team will also compete in the three-division Oberg Trophy Fleet Race at MIT, hosted by Northeastern.Â
The women's sailing team will travel to Tufts to compete in the New England Women's Team Race Championship.
