PHILADELPHIA, Penn. - The Brown women's basketball team (16-10, 8-6 Ivy) fell to the Penn Quakers (17-10, 7-7 Ivy) 69-56 in its regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at the Palestra.
Brown saw three players score in double-figures on Saturday afternoon in Alyssa Moreland (12), Ada Anamekwe (11), and Olivia Young (11).
Moreland closed out the afternoon with her 11th double-double of the season, and 15th of her career. She led Brown in scoring with 12 points, and grabbed 12 rebounds.
The Bears held the Quakers to eight points in the first quarter, and have now held their opponents to single-digit quarters in 16 of their 26 games this season. Penn got on the board first, with a layup from Simone Sawyer. Moreland responded with a layup of her own 25 seconds later. Brown went on to net 10 more points in the first quarter, outscoring Penn 12-8.
Penn went on to post its highest-scoring quarter netting 26 points before the break, with six of those points coming from free throws. Brown came up short, totaling 17 points in the second quarter. The Quakers led 34-29 at halftime.
A tight third quarter ensued, with both teams trading baskets. Brown benefited from Penn's fouls, going 7-for-8 from the free throw line in the third. A pair of made free throws brought the Bears within one point, three minutes into the quarter. A Moreland layup put Brown ahead by one but the Quakers retaliated, pulling away. At the end of three, Penn held a 52-43 advantage over Brown.
The Quakers netted an additional 17 points in the final quarter, extending their lead over the Bears to 69-56.
