PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Avery W. Broadbent Varsity Squash Head Coach Arthur Gaskin has announced the hiring of Rodney Durbach as the Steel Family Assistant Coach for the men's and women's squash programs.
"We're incredibly excited to welcome Rodney to campus," Gaskin said. "His experience, knowledge, and passion for the game will add tremendous value to our program."
Durbach, a native of South Africa, comes to College Hill after having coached at the McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee since January 2023. While at McCallie, Durbach helped build the school's squash program from the ground up, and guided the program to Division I play, the highest level at the U.S. High School National Championships.
Prior to coaching at McCallie, Durbach was a member of the South African National Team, where he earned a career-high world ranking of No. 23 in 2002. Durbach won six Professional Squash Association World Tour championships and six South African National Championships during his career.
Following his retirement, Durbach served as South Africa's National Team coach before joining McCallie.
Durbach joins Gaskin and fellow assistant coach Meredith Lorito '14 on the staff for the Brown men's and women's squash programs ahead of the 2026-27 season. The programs were elevated to varsity status after successful stints at the club level. Under Gaskin, Brown won the College Squash Association's Chaffee Cup from 2023-2026, while the women's program claimed the CSA's Epps Cup in 2025.
