WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Brown women's rugby team (0-4) was shut out by Army West Point (3-2), 60-0, in an early afternoon match on Saturday.
The Black Knights took an early lead, scoring three quick tries and a conversion. Army relentlessly broke through Brown's defense, ending the first half with a 39-0 advantage.
In the second half, the defense was able to hold down their end, keeping the scoring at a minimum. Olivia Baptiste and Laryssa Barbosa were recognized for their strong play on both sides of the ball and solid defense.
"It was really a tough match for the squad, and we are putting in a lot of effort, but falling short when we have opportunities," said Kathleen Flores Head Coach Rosalind Chou. "The scrums improved from last match, but we didn't take advantage when we had great field territory. The team gave a full 80 minutes."
The Bears now prepare for Saturday, Oct. 11, traveling to the Big Apple to face LIU at 12 p.m.
