Women's Rugby Loses to Harvard on the Road
9/13/2025 6:13:00 PM | Women's Rugby
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Brown women's rugby team (0-3) was defeated by the Harvard Crimson (3-0) in a midday match on Saturday.
The Bears kicked off the match with Julia Murray recording a penalty kick, giving them an early 3-0 lead. Brown continued to showcase defensive efforts, maintaining the lead for much of the first half. As the first half progressed, however, the Crimson began to dominate the scoring, ultimately carrying the advantage into the second half.
Continuing the action in the second half, the Bears were first to score again as Caitlin Moroney notched her first try of the season. Despite players capitalizing on defensive opportunities to keep the scoring low, the Crimson pulled ahead and secured a 47-8 victory.
"The team played with tenacity and heart until the final whistle," said Kathleen Flores Women's Rugby Head Coach Rosalind Chou. "Freshmen Abby Cirillo, Naomi VanZandt, and Lily McGettigan really stepped into some key roles today and stood out. Caitlin Moroney was outstanding in the #1 jersey, and she's having a breakout season."
The Bears now turn their focus to Saturday, Sept. 27, when they take on Army in West Point, N.Y., at 12 p.m.
