PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Former Brown women's basketball standout Gianna Aiello '25 has signed a professional contract with Club Baloncesto Islas Canarias of the top-tier Liga Femenina Endesa in Spain.
"We are so thrilled for Gianna to be extending her basketball career as a professional basketball player in Spain," said Elizabeth F. Turner '98 Coaching Chair for Women's Basketball Monique LeBlanc. "Recently graduating with a degree in computer engineering, and the option to play professional basketball, Gianna is a great representation of the opportunities that our student-athletes can create in their time at Brown. We are so proud, and excited to follow her in her upcoming season!"
Aiello closed out the 2024-25 season leading the team in multiple categories including field goal percentage (.564), rebounds (8.1 per game), and blocks (1.1 per game). Her .564 field goal percentage ranks fourth in program history in a single season. She also holds second place after capping the 2022-23 season at .571. Aiello averaged the second-most points per game on the team with 9.4 during the 2024-25 season. She concluded the season with a total of five double-doubles, including consecutive performances in the final two games. Aiello remained a staple in the starting lineup for the Bears, starting in 19 of her 21 games played.
This year, the Matawan, N.J. native was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team, and earned Academic All-Ivy honors.
Club Baloncesto Islas Canarias was founded in 1980 and has since produced players who have excelled in Europe, nationally, and in the WNBA. The team is located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and plays at the Polideportivo La Paterna.
