PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Former Brown University sailor and Brown Athletic Hall of Famer Charlie Enright '08 has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of US Sailing, as announced by the organization earlier this week.
"I am really excited for Charlie to lead US Sailing, our national sailing authority," says his former coach at Brown, John Mollicone. "He has a lot of hard work ahead of him, and he will do a terrific job as he has with everything he has tackled so far. He is one of the smartest, hard working, extremely driven, and talented student-athletes I have ever had the pleasure of coaching, and we have also sailed with and against each other many times over the years, so I know him well. He has the tools, personality, and charisma to lead US Sailing to great heights."
During his time on the sailing team, Enright served as team captain. He was a four-time Honorable Mention College Sailing All-American Coed Skipper and a three-time All-New England Coed Skipper. He helped lead the team to two top five finishes at the College Sailing Team Race National Championships in 2004 and 2008.
Enright went on to co-found and skipper the 11th Hour Racing Team for the 2023 edition of the Ocean Race, one of the most difficult races in all of sailing to win. An accomplished sailor, Enright led the 11th Hour Racing Team to victory 2023, making them the first American team to win the around-the-world event. Before his win, Enright competed in the event in 2014-15 and 2017-18, when it was formerly known as the Volvo Ocean Race.
In 2023, Enright was named Rolex Yachtsman of the Year. The award is one of the highest and most prestigious honors that a sailor can receive. Enright was recognized for his excellence in sailing at the national and international levels.
Upon stepping into his new role, Enright will work closely to develop and execute US Sailing's goals, support membership and fundraising efforts, manage partnerships, and implement his leadership skills to help grow the sport of sailing nationally.
Enright graduated from Brown in 2008, earning his degree in business and economics. He resides in Barrington, R.I. with his wife Meris (Brown '08) and two children.
