Aiello’s Fifth Double-Double Lifts Bears to 53-44 Victory over Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Brown women's basketball team (12-15, 6-8 Ivy) earned a 53-44 win over the Yale Bulldogs (4-23, 3-11 Ivy) on Saturday afternoon at John J. Lee Amphitheater.
In her final regular season contest as a Bear senior center Gianna Aiello dominated at the rim, posting her fifth double-double of the season and of her career. Aiello closed out this afternoon's game with 18 points and 11 rebounds. This marks Gianna's second game in a row posting double-doubles after netting 15 points and grabbing 16 rebounds against Cornell on Mar. 1.
Junior guard Grace Arnolie finished out the game with the second-most points for Brown with 14.
Aiello got the Bears on the board first with a layup 30 seconds in. Brown then scored a quick four points to extend their lead over Yale. After free throws for both teams, Yale's Grace Thybulle hit a jumper to tie the score at seven. Sophomore guard Olivia Young made a layup to give the lead back to Brown. Young also netted a free throw before the end of the first quarter, further extending Brown's lead.
Aiello earned six free throws in the first quarter alone, shooting 50% from the line. Brown also held Yale to just seven points in the first 10 minutes.
Scoring continued to bounce back and forth throughout the second quarter. Yale held on to the lead by one, with just one minute to play before the half. Senior guard Isabella Mauricio hit a three-pointer giving the Bears a two point advantage heading into the break,
Both teams played a tight third quarter, tying the score four separate times. With two minutes on the clock, the contest sat tied at 35. The Bears grabbed four points before entering the final 10 minutes of regulation. Brown led 39-35 going into the fourth quarter.
The Bears outscored the Bulldogs in the final quarter, netting 14 points to Yale's nine. Brown's triples paired with free throws allowed them to pull away from Yale. Arnolie ended the Bears' scoring with a pair of free throws, pushing Brown to 53 points. Brown made one final stop before securing their 53-44 win over Yale.
UP NEXT
After today's win over Yale and Penn's loss to Princeton, the Bears and Quakers are now tied for fourth place in the conference. The final seed in Ivy Madness will come down to NET rankings, which will be released by the NCAA on Sunday morning.
