Volleyball Sweeps Columbia on Senior Night

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown volleyball (14-8, 9-4 Ivy) earned a 3-0 win over Columbia (2-21, 0-13 Ivy) on Senior Night in the Pizzitola Sports Center on Friday (Nov. 14), 25-16, 27-25, 25-22.
The Bears were led on offense by Sophia Wolfson's 10 kills on .500 hitting. Ally Panzloff collected nine kills and Fisayo Afonja finished the game with eight. The Bears finished the night hitting .305 as a team with Julia Kakkis guiding the offense with 29 assists.
On defense, Brown held Columbia to .101 hitting. Eve McLaury had a team-high six digs. Wolfson led the Bears at the net with seven digs.
Brown took control of the first set with a 5-1 run that made the score 14-8. Columbia cut Brown's lead to 18-14 but the Bears scored four-straight to make it 22-14. Kills by Panzloff and Maddy Smith ended the set for the Bears.
The Bears fell behind early in set two but used a 6-0 run, capped by kills from Wolfson and Smith to take the lead 14-13. The teams traded runs with Columbia going up 17-14 before Brown responded to take a 19-17 lead. The Lions would earn set point at 24-23 but the Bears posted back-to-back blocks from Shaw, Afonja and Wolfson to go up 25-24. After a Columbia point, a kill and ace by Afonja ended the set.
Set three was tight with the Bears holding the lead throughout. After a kill from Smith gave Brown a 22-19 lead, the Lions responded with two points to make it 22-21. Two errors from Columbia gave Brown match point and after a block by the Lions, senior Hannah Flannery finished the match off with a kill after an assist from fellow senior Isabella Bonatakis.

Brown will close out the regular season with a match against Cornell on Saturday (Nov. 15) beginning at 6 p.m.
