Volleyball Swept by Cornell to End Regular Season

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown volleyball (14-9, 9-5 Ivy) fell in straight sets to Cornell (15-9, 10-4 Ivy), 25-10, 25-22, 25-22, to close out the regular season on Saturday (Nov. 15) at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Ally Panzloff was the lone Bear in double figures with 10 kills. Fisayo Afjonja finished the night with nine and no other Bear had more than four. Julia Kakkis had 27 assists for Brown.
Eve McLaury collected a team-high 14 digs and Sophia Wolfson had three blocks to lead the Bears.
Brown hit just .157 in the match and allowed Cornell to hit .317. The Big Red hit over .400 in two of the three sets.
Cornell held a 10-0 advantage at the service line as the Bears did not record an ace for the first time this season.
After dropping the first set, Brown fell behind 6-2 in the second but the Bears came back to take a 10-9 lead. Cornell would push its lead to four multiple times late in the set but the Bears clawed back to make it a one-point deficit at 23-22. An error and a block on two Brown attacks gave the set to Cornell.
Brown began the third set with a 4-1 run and after kills by Wolfson and Sarah Shaw, Brown led 9-4. Midway through the set, at 5-0 run by Cornell flipped the score and the set went back-and-forth until Cornell took a 22-20 lead after two-straight points. The Bears fought off one match point but could not keep the match alive.
UP NEXT
Brown will take part in the Ivy League Tournament, which will begin on Friday (Nov. 21) and be held at Princeton. The Bears will take on the top-seeded Tigers in the semifinal.
