Men’s Tennis Shines on Day One of the ITA New England Regionals

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Brown men's tennis team shined on day one of the ITA New England Regionals as Robert Yang, Elliot Wasserman, James Lian, and Alex Koong all advanced to the main draw of the ITA New England Regionals on Thursday.
The four players began the day in the qualifying draw and each earned two victories, propelling them to the main draw. The four will join teammates Lukas Phimvongsa and Noah Hernandez, both were direct acceptances into the main draw.
Overall, Brown won eight out of 10 singles matches. Robert Yang opened singles play strongly, earning a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Manveer Boparai from Bryant before defeating Domagoj Stabek from Fairfield in straight sets (6-2, 6-2). Elliot Wasserman followed with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win over Andrew Kelly from Bryant and advanced past Adrian Treacy from Dartmouth after he retired in the second set (6-1, 2-0). James Lian cruised past Daniel Baquero from Bryant (6-1, 6-0) before outlasting Carlo Zucchini from Le Moyne in a tight three-set bout (6-4, 2-6, 10-7). Alex Koong battled back for a three-set victory against Matthew Carlson from Holy Cross (4-6, 7-5, 10-3) before edging Jacob Borch-Nielsen from Stonehill (0-6, 6-1, 11-9).
Brown will continue the ITA New England Regionals on Friday, Oct. 10 when all six singles performers in the main draw will compete. Also, the Bears' six doubles pairings will begin the event.
