
Men’s Tennis Claims Seven Victories at Day Two of the ITA Regionals

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Brown men's tennis team picked up seven total victories on day two of the ITA New England Regionals.
The Bears saw four out of five doubles pairings advance as well as three singles competitors. In doubles play, Brown put together a strong showing in the opening round. Zander Bravo and Elliot Wasserman earned an 8-6 victory over Quinnipiac's Csanad Nyaradi and Gaurav Mootha, while Theo Murphy and James Lian secured an 8-4 win against Marist's Fateh Singh and Ian Layton. Cole Oberg and Alex Koong battled to a tight 9-7 decision over Matthew Callum and Luke Hoyland from Le Moyne, and the duo of Noah Hernandez and Lukas Phimvongsa defeated Boston College's Matthew Carioscia and Luke Levanat, 8-4. The lone setback came as Dartmouth's Miles Groom and Henry Ren topped Toby Luo and Robert Yang, 8-0.
In singles action, Robert Yang and James Lian continued their strong form, each advancing to the next round. Yang defeated Binghamton's Ronin Lotlikar in straight sets (6-4, 7-5), and Lian posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Dartmouth's Calvin Wang. Lukas Phimvongsa battled through a three-set match to overcome Davis Matney from St. Bonaventure (7-5, 3-6, 6-3). Alex Koong fell in a hard fought contest to Merrimack's Kabir Chhabria (7-6 [8-10], 2-6, 3-6), while Elliot Wasserman and Noah Hernandez both dropped their matches in straight sets.
Brown will continue play at the ITA New England Regionals on Saturday, Oct. 11, with singles competitors advancing to the Round of 32 and doubles teams looking to build on their starts in the main draw.
