Field Hockey Captures Fourth Straight Win with 3-1 Triumph Over Cornell

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown field hockey team (5-3, 2-1) took down previously undefeated Cornell (6-1, 2-1), 3-1, on Friday afternoon at Goldberger Family Field for its fourth consecutive win.
The Bears opened the scoring 55 seconds into the contest as the reigning Ivy League Co-Offensive Player of the Week Lexi Pellegrino found the back of the net off of a penalty corner chance. It was Pellegrino's eighth goal of the season and her 33rd career goal, the senior moved into a tie for third place in program history with the goal. Pellegrino's goal was assisted by Mia Karine Myklebust.
Following Pellegrino's goal, Cornell took to the offensive, forcing Brown goalkeeper Ellie Parker to make two saves. The Big Red were able to level the game at one exactly 12 minutes into the opening quarter.
The two teams entered the second quarter knotted at one before Brown was awarded an early penalty stroke chance. Lucy Adams stepped up and fired the ball into the back of the net and Brown regained the lead 49 seconds into the quarter. Neither team found the back of the net for the remainder of the first half as the Bears took a 2-1 advantage into halftime.
The Bears out shot the Big Red 7-6 in the first quarter as both goalkeepers made three saves each. Cornell entered the game leading the nation in penalty corners per game, the Bears held the Big Red to two first half corner chances.
Brown out shot Cornell 6-4 in the third quarter as both teams generated three penalty corner chances, the third quarter was scoreless as Brown took a 2-1 lead into the final 15 minutes.
The Bears put their stamp on the game 2:30 into the fourth quarter as Myklebust scored to double Brown's lead to 3-1. Myklebust's goal came off of a penalty corner, Brown's second penalty corner goal of the afternoon.
Overall, Brown out shot Cornell 15-12 (10-5 on target). Ellie Parker made four saves for the Bears in her fifth-career collegiate victory, the freshman has allowed two goals over the last four games.
Brown's three goals were the most an opponent has scored against Cornell this season, the Big Red came into the contest having outscored their opponents 19-5 this season. This is the first time the Bears have won four-straight games since they opened Britt Broady's Bears tenure with five-straight wins to open the 2022 season.
Brown will look for its fifth-straight win on Sunday, Oct. 5 when they welcome Maine to Goldberger Family Field at 12 p.m. for its Pink Out game.
