Women's Hockey Set to Host Princeton and Quinnipiac Over Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's hockey is home to host both RV Princeton and #7 Quinnipiac over the weekend.
The Bears, who are receiving votes in the most recent polls, will begin the weekend against Princeton on Friday (Oct. 24) with puck drop at 6 p.m. On Saturday (Oct. 25) Brown will take on No. 7 Quinnipiac at 3 p.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
On Saturday, Brown will be hosting their Alumnae game, welcoming back former Bears. After the game, Brown will host a Skate with the Bears as fans are welcome to join the Bears on the ice.
SKATE SHAVINGS
• Brown is receiving votes in both the USCHO.com poll and the USA Hockey poll after the Bears started the season 2-0-0 for the second-straight year.
• Netminder Anya Zupkofska recorded her first-career shutout in a 1-0 win over Merrimack on Sunday (Oct. 19).
• Last season, Brown won both series against Princeton and Quinnipiac, going 1-0-1 in both series. Brown won both home games last season.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
• Princeton comes into the weekend with an 0-2-0 record after dropping its first two games of the season at No. 11 UConn.
• The Tigers lost the opener 2-1 before falling 3-0 in the second game of the back-to-back
• The lone goal of the season for Princeton came from Mackenzie Alexander.
• Uma Corniea started both games and despite picking up the loss in both contests, finished the weekend with 48 saves.
INSIDE THE SERIES
• Brown is 35-57-5 all-time against Princeton but the Bears have turned the tide against the Tigers under head coach Melanie Ruzzi.
• The Bears won the series with Princeton last year, earning a win at home and a tie on the road. It was the first time since the 2003 season that Brown went unbeaten against Princeton.
• Over the last four seasons, Brown has gone 2-3-3 against the Tigers and brown has only lost one game against Princeton in the last five meetings (2-1-2).

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
• Quinnipiac is off to an 8-0-0 start this season and is currently ranked No. 7 in both polls.
• The Bobcats have been on an offensive onslaught this season, scoring at least three goals in every game and have hit the five-goal mark in four games, including two five-goal performances against Providence College.
• Kahlen Lamarche leads the NCAA in both goals per game (1.50) and points per game (2.38).
• In net, Felicia Frank holds an 8-0-0 record, allowing just 1.43 goals per game and has posted two shutouts this season.
INSIDE THE SERIES
• Brown is 9-26-5 all-time against Quinnipiac but the Bears re 2-0-1 in their last three meetings with the Bobcats.
• Last season, Brown played two overtime games against Quinnipiac, earning a 2-1 win at home and going to a 0-0 tie on the road. It was the first time since 2008-09 that Brown won the season series against the Bobcats.
• A win or tie against the Bobcats would give Brown its first four-game unbeaten streak in the series since the first four meetings (3-0-1) from 2002-06.
CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
• The Bears will have two players with the 'C' on their sweaters this season, as seniors Jade Iginla and India McDadi were both voted captains for the season
• Iginla, who served as a captain last season, finished last year with 16 points (6 goals, 10 assists)
• McDadi was an assistant captain a season ago and was third on the team in points (20) and second on the team in assists (14).
DONNING THE 'A'
• Two Bears will be serving as assistant captains this season with seniors Gali Levy and Ellie Gauvin being voted by their teammates.
RETURNING FIREPOWER
• Brown boasts and impressive group of returners as Brown returns 85% (63-74 goals) of its goal scoring from a season-ago.
• The top-five goal scorers from last year are back, led by Monique Lyons (14), Margot Norehad (12), Ava DeCoste (11), India McDadi (6) and Jade Iginla (6).
• The Bears return seven of their eight double-digit points scorers from last season, including Lyons (24), DeCoste (21) and McDadi (20), who all reached the 20-point mark.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
• Brown found its starting goaltender last year in Rory Edwards, the junior returns having played in 25 of the 35 games Brown played last season.
• Edwards finished the year with a 12-8-2 record, including three shutouts. Edwards three shutouts last season are the most by a Bear since Katie Jamieson had three back in the 2009-10 season.
• Edwards has a 2.23 GAA and a .921 save percentage.
• The best stretch of Edwards career came from Jan. 17-Jan. 25 of last season when the Bears went 2-0-2 against St. Lawrence, Clarkson, Princeton and Quinnipiac. Edwards earned wins at both St. Lawrence and Clarkson with both games going into overtime. She followed that up with a tie at Princeton and a 45-save 0-0 tie at Quinnipiac to close the stretch.
• Edwards was twice named ECAC Goaltender of the Week last season.
STRONG START FOR THE BEARS
• Brown began the season 2-0-0 with wins over No. 13 Boston University and Merrimack. It is the second-straight season Brown has started 2-0-0 and the first time Brown has going 2-0-0 to start back-to-back seasons since 2000-01 and 2001-02
• The win at No. 13 Boston University was the first ranked win in a season opener for the Bears since Brown beat No. 2 Minnesota to start the 2000-01 season.
2024-25 SERIES WINS
• Brown won five series in ECAC play last season, sweeping Harvard and Dartmouth and winning series against Princeton, Quinnipiac and St. Lawrence 1-0-1.
• It is the first time since the 2003-04 season that Brown has gone unbeaten against five difference conference play teams in a season.
• Brown last won a series against:
Harvard (2023-24), Dartmouth (2023-24), Quinnipiac (2008-09), St. Lawrence (2002-03) and Princeton (2001-02)
NORTH COUNTRY SWEEP
• Brown swept its North Country trip for the first time in program history earning overtime wins against No. 8 St. Lawrence and No. 7 Clarkson.
• The win at St. Lawrence was the first time since 2005 and the win at Clarkson was the first win there since 2006.
HITTING THE WINS
• With Brown's win over Dartmouth, the Bears reached 14 wins on the year and nine wins in ECAC play. Both of those numbers are the most for Brown since the 2005-06 season
• The Bears earned their winning record since the 2005-06 season.
• Brown's five Ivy League wins last season are the most since winning five in the 2003-04 season.
ZUPKOFSKA SHUTOUT
• Sophomore Anya Zupkofska posted her first-career shutout in the 1-0 win over Merrimack on Oct. 19.
SPREADING THE POINTS
• Through two games, Brown does not have a single player with more than two points this season. Olivia Fantino netted Brown's first goal of the year against BU and Monique Lyons followed that with the game winner against the Terriers.
• Margot Norehad picked up Brown's lone goal against Merrimack.
• Five different players have recorded an assist for the Bears this season.
WHO NEEDS SHOTS
• Brown beat No. 13 Boston University despite finishing the game with just 18 shots on goal. Brown had not won a game in the last two seasons (0-17-0) when registering less than 20 shots.
• Brown completed the comeback with a third period goal, a period in which the Bears had just four shots. the fewest in the game.
I GUESS SHOTS DO WORK
• In the win over Merrimack Brown flipped the script, peppering Merrimack with 43 shots. It was the most shots for the Bears in a game since firing 47 against Harvard on Feb. 7, 2025.
• Brown outshot Merrimack 43-10, matching the largest discrepancy since that Harvard game (47-14).
• Brown's 43 shots netting just one goal are the most shots in a game with one goal or fewer since the Bears were shutout despite 47 shots in a loss against Union in 2010.
