Strong Second Half Lifts Football Past Bryant

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – A strong second half powered the Brown football team to a 29-19 win over Bryant on Friday night. The Bears outscored the Bulldogs 29-7 in the second half, with tailbacks Matt Childs and Qwentin Brown scoring fourth quarter touchdowns to complete the rally.
The victory gives Brown its first 3-0 record vs. non-league opponents and its first 3-1 start since 2013. It also ends a streak of eight consecutive games against Bryant that were decided by one possession, which was the longest active streak in FCS Football.

The Bears will return home next Saturday to host Princeton on Family Weekend at Richard Gouse Field at Brown Stadium. Kickoff is set for noon on ESPN+ and the Learfield Varsity Network.

- Childs had a career-high 92 rushing yards on 21 carries and had a pair of touchdowns, while adding five catches for 33 yards.
- Qwentin Brown had 10 carries for 50 yards and a 26-yard touchdown run late in the game.
- Trevor Foley scored his first career touchdown on a 47-yard catch and run to get Brown on the board in the third quarter.
- Levi Linowes had three catches for 42 yards, plus a two-point conversion.
- Quarterback James Murphy was 29-for-44 for 347 yards and one touchdown.
- Elias Archie had an interception, and Ike Odimegwu recovered a fumble in the first half.
- Miles Brophy tied for a game-high 11 tackles.
- Brown outgained Bryant 460-350 for the game, including 368-132 in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After trading multiple defensive stops, Bryant broke the seal with a seven-play, 63-yard drive that ended with a 14-yard touchdown run for a 6-0 lead late in the opening quarter following a failed PAT try.
- Bryant struck for another touchdown near the end of the half, driving 92 yards before scoring on a three-yard run up the middle to make it 12-0 with 1:54 left after an unsuccessful two-point attempt.
- After Brown's defense forced a three-and-out to start the second half, the Bears struck for a quick score as Murphy hit Foley over the middle on a slant before pulling away for a 47-yard touchdown catch and run to pull Brown within 12-7 at 12:20.
- Brown struck again on its next possession, converting a pair of third downs and scoring on a one-yard run by Childs. Long catches by Linowes and Najih Rahman on third downs set up the score. Brown converted a two-point attempt to make it 15-12 at the 6:12 mark.
- Bryant responded with a touchdown drive of its own, scoring on a 16-yard pass into the back corner of the end zone to take a 19-15 lead.
- Brown drove 76 yards in under two minutes for the go-ahead score with 8:59 remaining as Childs plowed it in from a yard out to make it 22-19. The drive was headlined by a big 37-yard catch on the sideline by Solomon Miller, and a 36-yard completion to Michael Nesbit, along with a roughing the passer penalty.
- The Bears made it a two-possession game with 4:21 remaining as Brown took a handoff up the middle, was hit immediately, but kept his legs churning, pushed the pile and eventually broke free for a 26-yard scoring run that made it 29-19.
