PRINCETON, N.J. – The Brown women's rugby team used a strong performance to take down Princeton by a score of 46-5 on Saturday afternoon. The win moves Brown to 3-0-1 on the season, their best 15s start to a season since 2014.
The Bears rattled off the first 46 points of the game, starting with Elizabeth Mahoney converting on a try at 7:45, with Julia Murray adding a conversion for the 7-0 lead.
Akil Dougherty made it 12-0 after a try at 16:50, followed by successful tries from Kendall Cunningham, Elizabeth Mahoney, and Nikki Lynch. Mahoney converted another try in the second half, and Lynch added two more scores to give her three on the day. Julia Murray converted twice more down the stretch to bring the score to 46-0. Princeton avoided the shutout with a successful try at 75:00.
"The team, when playing direct, confrontational rugby, were able to convert possession into points," head coach Rosalind Chou said. "We saw some real physicality in rainy conditions. There is still a lot of work to be done before our next match up but we are happy to come away with another win. Jordan Wiseman and Kayla Atoigue were leaders in the contact area. Sophie Dornstein had a great showing in her first career start, and Tarn Reilly was a constant in the back line."
The Bears will return to action next Saturday, October 5 at 4 p.m. when they host Harvard at the Berylson Family Fields.
