PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown Associate Head Coaching Chair for Throwing Events Darcy Wilson has obtained USATF Level 1 Instructor Certification after successfully completing the USATF Coaching Education program. She was one of 15 coaches/instructors nationwide to complete the course this year and will now serve as an instructor to coaches completing the Level 1 Coaching Certification.
Level 1 Coaching Certification is the cornerstone education program for USATF and prepares individuals from junior levels up through college and club levels by emphasizing fundamentals, teaching, rules, progressions, safety and risk management.
With over 20 years of collegiate coaching experience, Wilson returned to Brown in the fall of 2023 following a seven-year stint as the throws coach at Harvard. She previously coached the throwers at Brown from 2012-2016. In her first year back with the Bears, Wilson coached Chidinma Agbasi to set a new program record in the weight throw (19.54m) and helped the Bears' throwers to three of the top six marks all-time in the hammer throw during the outdoor season. In 2023, she became the first coach in the nation to coach the male and female NCAA Division I hammer throw champions in the same year.
