PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Three Brown student-athletes were recognized by the University on Friday with the prestigious Joukowsky Scholar-Athlete Award and the Alfred H. Joslin Award. The awards were presented at a ceremony and reception at the De Ciccio Family Auditorium at the Salomon Center for Teaching.
Football's Declan Boyle was named one of 10 recipients of the Joslin Award. Each year, Brown University presents the Joslin Award to select senior undergraduate students who have "contributed in a significant way to the quality of student life at Brown." Boyle will earn a degree in engineering. (READ MORE HERE). A punter for the Bears, Boyle appeared in 30 games throughout his Brown career and was recently named to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society.
Beau Vanderlaan and Kimo Ferrari are the 2024 recipients of the Joukowsky Scholar-Athlete Award, given annually to two Brown students (one male and one female) who embody the best qualities of the scholar-athlete by achieving success in both the classroom and athletic competition – a reflection of Brown's commitment to the totality of individual accomplishment.
Vaanderlaan is one of the greatest Brown volleyball student-athletes, and set a program record this year, hitting .402. She led the team in points, kills and blocks en route to earning a third consecutive First Team All-Ivy selection. Vanderlaan is one of two Brown recipients of the Jouwkowsky Award. She'll spend the summer interning in the fashion department of Abercrombie & Fitch.
Ferrari had a storybook Senior Day, shattering the program record with 10 three-pointers and tying the Brown record for points scored in the Pizzitola Sports Center with 39. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee co-president led the Ivy League in three-point shooting this year and will graduate with a degree in business economics. He will continue his collegiate career in his home state of California upon graduation.
