Women’s Tennis Returns Home with 4-0 Victory Over Dartmouth

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Brown women's tennis team returned home this afternoon to take on the Dartmouth Big Green. The Bears earned the win, and finished the match with a 4-0 victory.
Brown was able to secure the doubles point after winning the first and second doubles matches. Phoebe Peus and Lindsey Hofflander earned the first doubles after winning the tiebreaker (7-6). Ali Benedetto and Addie Ahlstrom earned the Bears the doubles point after winning the second set of the afternoon (6-4).
"Our team showed a lot of fight and grit in today's win. We really had to dig deep and fight back in doubles as Dartmouth challenged us at all lines. Our lines 1 and 2 doubles were able to weather the storm and rise to the occasion with some clutch play when necessary to win the doubles point," Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser said.
In singles, the Bears earned points at the second, third, and fifth line. Ali Benedetto beat Dartmouth's Michela Moore in two sets (6-1, 6-3). Gabby Soliman earned Brown their second singles point after two sets against Dartmouth's Lexi DeWire (6-2, 6-1). Brown secured their win after Dani Ben-Abraham took down Caroline Lemcke in three sets (6-3, 2-6, 6-4).
"In singles, Ali and Gabby played flawlessly, showing a lot of fight and sticking to their game plan with conviction to give us a 3-0. The rest of the singles matches were a fight. Dani was able to come through for us as she competed well in the final stages of the match, outlasting her opponent in a battle of hard baseline exchanges. Now we look to prepare for Harvard on Sunday as we look forward to the challenge of playing a ranked team on their home courts," Schmidhauser said.
