Comeback Effort Comes Up Short for Men's Lacrosse in Season Finale at Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A furious fourth quarter comeback came up just short for the Brown Bears (3-11, 2-4 Ivy League) in the 2024 season finale Saturday afternoon against the Harvard Crimson (8-5, 2-4 Ivy League).
"Disappointed by the result and a disappointing season in general," said head coach Mike Daly. "Our kids fought until the end and I am proud of that. But I have to find the right players and put them in the right spots to move those outcomes in our favor. We will."
The Crimson jumped to an early lead and held a 5-1 advantage until Aidan McLane cut into the lead with his second goal of the opening quarter.
Both teams added a pair of goals in the second quarter to give Harvard a 7-4 lead at the break. McLane added his third of the game off an assist from Wells Bligh and Jackson Wolfram beat Crimson goalie Christian Barnard (11 saves) for his first of the game.
Ben Locke and McLane tallied consecutive goals in the third quarter to cut the Crimson lead to two at 8-6, but a Harvard run to end the quarter gave the home team an 11-6 edge until Spencer Hughes tallied a goal in the final minute of the quarter to bring the Bears back within four.
Marcus Wertheim tallied two straight goals in the fourth to bring the Bears within two with 6:01 remaining. After a defensive stop, Hughes made it a one-goal game with 3:06 remaining.
The Brown defense needed a stop in the final minute of regulation, but a flag against the Bears ended the comeback effort to give Harvard an 11-10 victory.
