#6 Women's Crew Collects Four Wins on First Day of Ivy Invite
4/12/2024 3:25:00 PM | Women's Crew
PRINCETON, N.J. – The sixth-ranked Brown Bears collected four wins in five races to kick off the Ivy Invite in a rain-soaked afternoon on Lake Carnegie.
Brown's Varsity 8, 2V8, A4, and B4 shells crossed the lines first to pick up victories.
"We had a good series of races on this first day of the Ivy Invitational," said head coach John Murphy. "Leading up to this race the team has been training hard and we definitely saw progress since racing here two weeks ago.
"Considerable planning goes into competing at a two day event like this and we want to thank our extensive support staff at Brown University and also our loyal and generous parents group who were here for us today as always."
Brown's 3V8 and 4V8 crews opened the afternoon against Penn's 3V and finished second and third with respective times of 6:44.701 and 7:01.783
The B4 shell, coxed by Caitlyn Roddy, posted a time of 7:18.227 to dominate the field with a 24-second edge over second-place Rutgers (7:42.925).
The A4 crew, stroked by Annie Herring, continued the strong performance with a time of 7:08.597 to take an 11-second win over Penn (7:19.759).
The Second Varsity 8 made it three straight wins for Bruno with a time of 6:19.072 to clear Penn (6:29.930) by over 10 seconds.
The Varsity 8 shell, stroked by Hannah Hickson, took a 2.5-second victory over Penn with a time of 6:14.873 on the choppy waters for the team's fourth victory of the day.
The Bears wrap up the Ivy Invite tomorrow on Lake Carnegie with the first Bruno race beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday's races will stream on ESPN+ in the United States and on Stretch Internet internationally.
