Women's Crew Opens Spring Season at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – The third-ranked Princeton Tigers retained the Class of 1987 Trophy with a Varsity 8 win over sixth-ranked Brown in the 2024 spring opener for the Bears on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, New Jersey on Saturday. Brown's 3V8 crew took the victory over Princeton.
"We got the chance today to see just where we are at this early point in the season and to identify what can be done to gain speed in the weeks ahead," said head coach John Murphy. "Today's racing was a strong team effort and everyone is looking forward to continuing to do what is necessary to reach our goals."
The Varsity 8, stroked by Hannah Hickson, held tight with the Tigers and ultimately crossed the finish line in 6:38.0, just 3.2 seconds behind the Princeton crew. The Princeton V8 finished third at the 2023 NCAA Championships.
The Second Varsity 8 had similar results to the V8, ultimately posting a time of 6:48.5 to cross the line 2.8 seconds behind the Tigers. The Princeton 2V8 finished fifth at last year's Championships.
Brown's 3V8, stroked by Ava Honerkamp and coxed by Caitlyn Roddy, posted a time of 7:07.7 to finish 1.7 seconds ahead of the Tigers.
Brown's A4 crossed the line 1.8 seconds behind the Tigers in another tightly contested race.
Princeton's B4 clocked a time of 7:34.6 to finish ten seconds ahead of Bruno (7:44.6).
The C4 race was another close finish with Princeton (7:45.0) finishing six seconds ahead of the Bears (7:51.2). Brown's D4 posted a time of 8:29.8 in the same race.
The Bears are back in action in two weeks to compete in the Ivy League Invitational in Princeton, New Jersey on Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13.
