Anya’s Career Night Highlights Men’s Basketball’s 78-74 win over No. 1 Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. – Brown (9-17, 5-6 Ivy) won its third consecutive Ivy League contest, defeating league-leading Cornell (20-5, 9-2 Ivy) 78-74 on Saturday evening in Newman Arena.
Kalu Anya had a career night, spoiling the Big Red senior day, and finished with 23 points and 17 rebounds, both career highs. The 17 rebounds are the most by an Ivy League student-athlete since Nana Owusu-Anane pulled down 18 boards vs. Columbia last season (Jan. 21).
Owusu-Anane finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds and Kimo Ferrari continued to shoot the ball well, collecting 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting to go with five assists and four rebounds.
FIRST HALF
The bigs dominated from the tip as Anya and Owusu-Anane combined for 23 points and 10 rebounds to give Brown a 43-41 edge at the half.
The Bears shot 53.3 percent from the field in the first and continued to make the extra pass with nine assists in the opener. Brown led by as much as nine in the half.
SECOND HALF
The lead reached double figures with the Bears dominating the glass, collecting 12 offensive rebounds (12-3 second chance points) and Anya posted 10 points and 13 rebounds in the second. The Massachusetts native pulled down nine from the offensive glass.
Brown held Cornell scoreless for nearly five minutes and extended its cushion to 15 with 6:26 remaining.
Sharpshooter Kino Lilly Jr. swipe with less than 20 ticks left to play sealed the victory for the Bears.
NEXT UP
A huge Senior Day weekend awaits Brown as the Bears welcome Harvard at 7 p.m. on Friday and Dartmouth at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Both games follow a women's hoops contest in the Pizzitola Sports Center.
