Men's Soccer Hosts End of Year Banquet, Presents Team Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I.-Â The Brown men's soccer team held their awards banquet on Wednesday night at the Center for Lacrosse and Soccer. At the banquet, the team presented their awards, and gave out university letter sweaters to the freshmen and senior classes.
Cliff Stevenson Award - Lorenzo Amaral
The Cliff Stevenson Award is given to the most valuable player.
Sophomore Lorenzo Amaral led the Bears this season with eight goals and six assists, totaling 22 points. Amaral received numerous honors throughout the year including TopDrawerSoccer's Player of the Week, Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week, First Team All-Ivy, and CSC Acadmic All-District Team.
Heinz Kubel Award - Lorenzo Amaral
The Heinz Kubel Award is given to the top offensive player.
Lorenzo Amaral is also the recipient of the Heinz Kubel Award. After posting 22 points throughout the season,
Amaral ranked second in the Ivy League in points. He ranked fourth in the conference in goals, and fifth in assists.
Thomas Gertken Award - Harri Sprofera
The Thomas Gertken Award is awarded to the defensive player of the year.
Senior Harri Sprofera played in 13 games this year, making starts in all of them. Sprofera finished out the year with three goals for a total of six points, ranking him third in points among the Bears. Sprofera scored the game-winning goal against Yale, punching Brown's ticket to the Ivy League Tournament. Sprofera was also named the Ivy League's Defensive Player of the Week last month.
Class of 1937 Award - Tanner BarryÂ
The Class of 1937 Award is given to the player who contributed the most overall to the team.
Senior Tanner Barry was named Second Team All-Ivy and Academic All-Ivy. He also was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team. Barry played in all 17 games for Brown, starting in 16 of them. He scored the game-winning goal against Harvard on Oct. 19.
Captain John Sherman Class of 1962 Award - Jack Cloherty
In memory of John Sherman '62, Captain of the 1961 Brown Men's Soccer Team, and fighter pilot and Captain in the United States Marine Corps, John Sherman emphasized the qualities of leadership, scholarship, and dedication. Captain Sherman displayed an unrivaled respect for his team, his college, and his country, and fought and died bravely in Vietnam representing the country he loved.
The award is presented to the player who, by virtue of his exemplary dedication, mental and physical toughness, and sense of duty and honor, best represents the legacy of Captain John Sherman.
Britton Chichester Award - James SnaithÂ
Presented to the first-year player who best exemplifies sportsmanship through dedication, perseverance, fair play, leadership, spirit, and support of his teammates and coaches, as selected by his teammates. The award was instituted in 2001 in honor of Britton Chichester, who died in an automobile accident in 1989 during his senior year of high school. Britton is the son of David Chichester, class of 1967 and long-time Chairman of the Friends of Brown Soccer and former co-captain and goalkeeper.
William Margeson Coaches Award - Charlie Adams
The William Margeson Coaches Award is presented to the player on the team who through sports and character, made a unique contribution to the team.
