Volleyball Uses Balanced Offense to Take Down Harvard

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown volleyball (8-13, 5-6 Ivy) used a balanced attack to take down Harvard (10-10, 5-6 Ivy), in four sets on Friday night, 18-25, 25-18, 25-14, 25-23.
Three Bears finished with double figure kills as Mariia Sidorova led Brown with 14. Hannah Flannery finished the match with 11 and Beau Vanderlaan picked up 10. Julia Kakkis guided Brown's offense with 45 assists.
Jessie Golden picked up her 19th-career 20-dig game leading Brown's defense with 20 and Sidorova added 11 digs for fourth-straight and ninth-career double-double. At the net, Flannery and Vanderlaan each had six blocks.
Golden also shined at the service line with a team-high five aces.
Brown dropped the first set after hitting just .140 and allowing Harvard to hit .400 but the Bears responded in set two, hitting a match-best .297. Up 9-7, Brown scored four-straight points with two kills from Sophia Wolfson to take control of the set. Harvard would get within three a couple of times but Brown had an answer to every Harvard run and kills by Kayla Griebl and Vanderlaan helped Brown close out the frame.
The Bears quickly jumped on the Crimson in set three7-0 run that featured two aces and two blocks from the duo of Flannery and Wolfson to go ahead 11-2. Brown would push its lead to 11 at 15-4 after a kill by Sidorova and never looked back. The Bears used another 7-0 run late in the set to go ahead 2-1 in the match.
Brown fell behind 4-0 in the fourth and trailed 17-15 after a 3-0 run by Harvard. Brown responded with kills by Sidorova and Flannery as part of a 5-0 run to take a 20-17 lead. Harvard jumped back on top 22-and the teams traded points with the set being tied at 23. After kill by Wolfson, a service ace from Sidorova ended the match.
UP NEXT
Brown will take on Dartmouth on Saturday at 5 p.m. and will celebrate the Bears' four seniors before the match.
