PROVIDENCE, R.I. – For the second consecutive week, Brown freshman tailback Matt Childs' standout performance has earned him Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors.
Childs was the Bears' leading rusher and receiver on Saturday in the team's 42-35 setback against Bryant, rushing for 58 yards and a touchdown on eight carries, and hauling in five passes for 93 yards and another touchdown.
Much of his damage came in the fourth quarter, starting with a 58-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown that gave Brown a 28-27 lead with 12:35 to go. Later, he added an eight-yard run up the middle on third down to extend a Brown drive, then followed that up two plays later with a 15 yard rush up the middle for a touchdown that tied the game at 35 with 4:37 to go.
This performance comes on the heels of last week's showing against Harvard, where he had 101 yards receiving and a touchdown on four receptions, paired with 14 rushing yards.
Through his first three games, Childs is third on the team with 76 rushing yards, is second on the squad with 68.67 receiving yards per game and is tied for the team lead with three total touchdowns.
Brown will head to URI to face the Rams in the battle for the Governor's Cup this Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m.
