Football to Host Penn for Salute to Service Day/Staff Appreciation on Saturday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Coming off a thrilling last-second victory over Cornell, the Brown football team will host Penn on Saturday afternoon for an Ivy League matchup at Richard Gouse Field at Brown Stadium. Fans can watch on ESPN+, with the game also being televised regionally on NESN+.

OPENING KICKOFF
- The Bears snapped a three-game losing streak last weekend with a wild second-half comeback, scoring 20 unanswered points to defeat Cornell 23-21 on a 29-yard field goal by Christopher Maron as time expired.
- The Quakers are 2-4 on the season and a disappointing 0-3 start to Ivy League play, which include two close losses to Dartmouth (20-17) and Columbia (23-17), and a 31-10 setback last Friday at home against Yale. Three of their four losses have come by seven points or less.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Quakers lead the all-time series 63-26-2. Penn has won six of the last 10 matchups.
- The Bears and Quakers have gone down to the wire each of the last two seasons, with Brown prevailing 34-31 in 2022, which handed Penn its first loss of the season. Brown won 30-26 last year in Philadelphia.
OUT OF THE GATES
- Brown has gotten off to slow starts this season, getting outscored 61-28 in the first quarter. Opponents have scored first in four of the six games.
- Brown has led only once this season at the end of the first quarter (Georgetown).
- The second half starts have been much better, outscoring the opposition, 41-24.
- The Bears are outscoring opponents in both the second and fourth quarters.
OUTSIDE MATCHUP
- The game features two Preseason Stats Perform FCS Second Team All-Americans who will be lined up opposite each other in Penn wideout Jared Richardson and Brown cornerback Isaiah Reed.
- Last season, the two went back and forth throughout the game with Richardson tallying 12 catches for 122 yards and a touchdown.
- Reed had two pass breakups and two interceptions, including a pick in the end zone with one 1:00 remaining to help seal the Brown victory.
BALANCING ACT
- The 2024 Bears have featured the most balanced offensive attack of the James Perry era. Passing yards have accounted for 64.2 percent of the team's total offense this season, with 35.8 percent of the team's yards coming on the ground. Compared to last season, when Brown got nearly 76 percent of its yards through the air and just over 24 percent on the ground.
- Brown has won four Ivy League weekly awards and one NEFW Gold Helmet in 2024.
- Christopher Maron was named the Ivy League's Special Teams of the Week for his performance this past weekend, after going 3-for-4 on field goals, including hitting the game-winner as time expired to beat Cornell.
PASSING ATTACK
- The Bears lead the Ivy League in passing offense (258.6).
- Quarterback Jake Willcox ranks among the nation's leaders in the following categories:
- Passing yards/game: (267.3 - 7th in FCS | 1st in Ivy)
- Completions/game: (24.33 - 7th in FCS | 2nd in Ivy)
- Total Offense: (303.3 - 7th in FCS | 1st in Ivy)
LONG AND SHORT SCORES
- Twelve of Brown's 19 touchdowns this season have come on passes of 45 yards or more (four), or rushes of two yards or less (nine). Of those nine scoring rushes, eight have been one-yard runs.
TURNOVER DOWNTURN
- Until Oct. 18 at Princeton, Brown had been doing a good job in the turnover department, committing only four turnovers through their first four games.
- The Bears committed five turnovers against Princeton, their most in a game since Nov. 2022 vs. Columbia. They added three more against Cornell.
- Brown's average turnover margin per game through their first four games was +0.75, good for first in the Ivy League and 21st in the nation.
- Brown now ranks seventh in the league and 94th nationally in turnover margin at -0.50.
