Sailing Wins Freshmen Championship, Second at Women's Fall Championship

PROVIDENCE - The Bears finish their final regular fall season weekend on October 26-27, winning the Nickerson Trophy at Tufts for the College Sailing Freshmen Championship, earning second place at the Urn Trophy for New England Fall Championship at Brown, 5th place at the Erwin Schell Trophy for the New England Open Fall Championship at Yale, and 2nd place at the Terrier Invite at Boston University.
The freshmen team of Tyler Lamm '28 and Reese Corckran '28 in A-division and Charles Gish '28, James Brock '28, and crew Marin Soderberg '28 in B-division dominated the 18-team Freshmen Championship for the Nickerson Trophy at Tufts. They beat second place Roger Wiliams by 55 points and won both of the divisions in a wide range of conditions.
The women's team led the way for most of the Urn Trophy for the NEISA Women's Fall Championship at Brown, ultimately finishing second to Harvard and beating Yale by one point in the 17-team championship. Katharine Doble '26 and crews Francesca Edmands '25 and Savannah Young '25 finished a strong third in A-division and Katherine McNamara '26 with crews Kaitlyn Hamilton '26, Francesca Edmands '25, and Katherine Majette '27 also finished third in B-division.
This culminated a strong fall season by the women's team, finishing at the top of most women's events this fall season, including a third-place finish at the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship a few weekends ago.
The coed team wrapped up a strong regular season by finishing fifth out of 18 teams at the Erwin Schell Trophy for the NEISA Open Fall Championship. They were in the battle for third place throughout the event and multiple different skippers and crews competed including Guthrie Braun '26, Emily Mueller '25, Mason Stang '25, and Olivia Miller '25 in A-division and Blake Behrens '27, Camren Spriggs '27, Leyton Borcherding '25, and Helen Horangic '25 in B-division.
The Bears had two teams at the Terrier Invite at Boston University on Saturday, October 26, finishing second and fourth in the 18-team event in windy and shifty Charles River conditions. Sidney Moyer '27 and Corinne Harrison won A-division and co-skippers Gabriela Collins '28 and Julian Dahiya '28 finished second in B-division.
LOOKING AHEAD
The next events are the College Sailing Fall National Championships, with the Open and Women's Singlehanded National Championships to take place from November 8-10 in St. Petersburg, FL. The Bears will have five sailors competing: Katharine Doble (women's), Sidney Moyer (women's), Martin Atilla (open), Guthrie Braun (open), and Julian Dahiya (open) who all were selected. Last year Katharine Doble finished a close second at the Women's Singlehanded National Championship.
The College Sailing Match Race National Championship will take place from November 15-17 at Seawanhaka Yacht Club in New York in Sonars to wrap up the fall. Competing for Brown will be skipper Guthrie Braun and crew Camren Spriggs, Katherine McNamara, and Charles Gish. The Bears are the defending National Champions in this discipline.
