Field Hockey Beats Columbia 2-1 in Shootout
10/18/2024 7:18:00 PM | Field Hockey
"We just stayed locked in, and everyone felt like they were together," said Katie McCallum. "We kept pressing and kept putting our foot on the gas and never gave up. We stayed in it mentally and really focused on playing our game."
This win over Columbia marks the first time Brown Field Hockey has won three Ivy League games in a season since 2016.
"I think we dominated throughout the entire duration of the game as you can see in the stats but their goalkeeper was absolutely outstanding and really kept them in the game," said Head Coach Britt Broady.
McCallum scored the sole regulation goal for Brown in the third quarter, she was assisted by Imogen Govan.
"Immy was going baseline and I was behind my defender and cut in front at the right moment and got a tip on it," said McCallum.
With just about five minutes remaining in regulation, Columbia's Sam Petrucco scored, ending 1-1, and they headed to overtime.
Teams went through two OTs scoreless before heading into a shootout. McCallum and Lucy Adams both scored, beating out the Lions who did not make any shots.
"Katie McCallum was outstanding; it was the best game of her career without a doubt," said Coach Broady. "And of course Lucy Adams was exceptional in playing every minute throughout the duration of the entire game and continued to push this team forward.
Goaltender Kylee Del Monte faced 11 shots in regulation, she was the backbone for the Bears this afternoon. She stopped all shots in the shootout.
"Kylee Del Monte for four stops in a shootout is pretty much unheard of, she put the team on her back and that's outstanding for a sophomore.
"We battled frustration but kept at it and I'm really proud of the leadership of this team to keep going."
The Bears remain at home as they host American on Sunday at noon at Goldberger Family Field. The game will be streaming on ESPN+.
