Women's Tennis Competes on Day One of Milwaukee Classic and Bulldog Invite

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. / NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Brown women's tennis competed on day of both the ITA Milwaukee Classic and Bulldog Invitational, hosted by Yale, against Boston University on Friday.

Senior Ali Benedetto and sophomore Vivian Miller went up against some of the top tennis players in the country at the Milwaukee Classic and put together some strong performances.

Benedetto and Miller first won their doubles match over senior Sarah Badawi and sophomore Emma Davis from Marquette (6-2). Benedetto then won both of her singles matches against Virginia's Meggie Navarro (6-4, 4-6, 6-2) and Notre Dame's Bojana Pozder (6-4, 6-1).

"This tournament is a great opportunity for Ali and Vivian to test themselves against some of the best players in the country," said Assistant Coach Sophia Geier. "Ali and Vivian played solid doubles to start the day. Ali also had a great day in singles. She battled in her first round of singles against an opponent with an unorthodox gamestyle and found a way to get to the finish line by figuring out how to make her opponent uncomfortable. It set the tone for her second round match where she implemented her game plan well and executed perfectly. Vivian played high quality opponents in both matches and even though she lost both her matches, she made some good adjustments in her second match."

Against BU in New Haven, the Bears split four doubles matches and won five out of eight singles matches. Junior Lindsey Hofflander and Pheobe Peus kept up their hot start with a win, while the freshman pair of Anne Yang and Hannah Shen were victorious in their first time playing together.

Coming away with singles wins were Yang, Shen, juniors Addison Ahlstrom and Gabby Soliman, and freshman Dani Ben-Abraham.

"Today's match against a high quality BU team gave us the opportunity to test our ability to fight and problem-solve in our first singles and doubles competition of the season," said Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "We definitely have work to do to solidify everyone's gamestyle clarity, but I was proud of most of our players for their ability to bounce back and compete no matter the score. This type of "never say never" mindset will help our players make big jumps in their competitiveness. I look forward to tomorrow's match against Rutgers."
