
Six Bears Receive At Large Academic All-Ivy Recognition

PRINCETON, N.J. – Six Brown University student-athletes appeared on the At Large Academic All-Ivy League Team, released by the league office on Tuesday. Institutions nominated one student-athlete from each of its non-Ivy League sponsored sports – women's equestrian, women's gymnastics, women's rugby, coed sailing, women's water polo, and men's water polo – to be included on the Academic All-Ivy At-Large team. Student-athletes must be in good academic standing to be eligible for the award.
Below are the six student-athletes, including season highlights.
Mahdia Parker, women's rugby (Sr., International, and Public Affairs & Africana Studies — Harlem, N.Y.)
- Captain … Started the final seven matches of the season … Finished the campaign with five tries, tied for third-most on the team
Abby Contello, women's gymnastics (Sr., Biology – Baldwinsville, N.Y.)
- GEC Scholar-Athlete...Served as a team captain … USAG Collegiate First Team All-America honoree on vault, qualifying for the individual finals at USAG Nationals, where she finished t-4th overall with a score of 9.750
Leo Berkman, men's water polo (Sr., Engineering – Orinda, Calif.)
- Finished the season fourth on the team with 39 goals ... Was fifth on the team in assists (21), tied for fourth in steals (23), and fourth in exclusions drawn (21)
Claire Pisani, women's water polo (Sr., Science, Technology, and Sociology – Redwood City, Calif.)
- Led the team with 68 ejections drawn and was second on the team with 46 goals ... Added 19 steals, seven assists, and two field blocks
Daphne Maniatis, equestrian (Sr., Physics – Chevy Chase, Md.)
- Captain … Brown's top finisher in the Intermediate Fences at the Ivy Show … Earned the win in Limit Flat and a second place finish in Limit Fences at Zone 1 Finals
Nora Ong, coed sailing (Sr., Environmental Studies and Public Policy – Saunderstown, R.I.)
- 2023 ICSA All-American Crew … 2023 NEISA First Team Open Crew and Finalist for NEISA Crew of the Year … 2023 Brown Sailing Most Valuable Sailor … 2022 Brown Sailing Team Co-Captain and SAAC Member
