
Yeboah-Kodie Wins Long Jump Title with School Record on Day One of Heps

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Junior Lauren Yeboah-Kodie set a new program record and took home the Ivy League long jump title to highlight Saturday's first day of competition at the 2023 Ivy League Heptagonal Track and Field Championships at Penn's Franklin Field.
As a team, the Brown women sit in fifth place with 12 points after day one, while the men are also in fifth place with 16 points.
Yeboah-Kodie and junior Brooke Ury also landed marks in the program's all-time top 10 in the 100m hurdles prelims, as did Lily Harding in the 10,000 meters.
On the men's side, juniors Zach Love and John McNeil finished second and third in the long jump to tie for the No. 3 mark all-time in program history.
WOMEN
Yeboah-Kodie's winning leap of 6.29 meters (20'7.75) came on her sixth and final attempt and just edged past Ijeoma Uche's benchmark of 20'7 from 2019. It also bested her previous personal record by 25 centimeters.
In the throws, sophomore Kenzii Phillips finished sixth overall in the javelin with a mark of 42.03m, earning seven team points.
Lily Harding also moved into ninth place on the program's all-time top 10 performers list with a time of 35:25.18 to place sixth overall in the 10,000 meters.
Brown qualified a league-leading three runners into Sunday's finals of the 100m hurdles with Ury (PR-13.94), Yeboah-Kodie (PR-14.04) and Chiamaka Odenigbo (14.35) all finishing in the top eight of Saturday's prelims. Ury's time moved her into a tie for third place on the program's all-time top performers list, and Yeboah-Kodie's mark places her sixth.
In the 400 meter hurdles, junior Anjoli Mathew finished third in prelims to qualify for Sunday's finals with a time of 1:00.38.
Junior Emma Gallant finished sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.40 to advance to the finals and set a new PR. Freshman Nimrit Ahuja qualified for Sunday's 1500m finals after setting a new PR for the second straight week in 4:32.50, finishing the prelims 12th overall.
In the heptathlon, Adrienne Usher leads the Bears in fifth place after day one, having finished second in the 200 meters (25.51) and third in the 100m hurdles (PR-14.89).
MEN
Love and McNeil led the way on the long jump podium by each leaping 7.58 meters, with Love finishing second overall by hitting the mark on his first attempt, and McNeil taking third by hitting the mark on his fifth try. The distance marks a new PR for both athletes, ties them for third on the school's all-time performer's list, and earned the team 14 points.
Liu Rothschild had a big personal record in the finals of the javelin, throwing 57.18 meters to finish fifth overall and earn two team points.
Junior Marcus Gillespie qualified for Sunday's finals in the 110m hurdles with his time of 14.49 seconds.
Sunday's second and final day of competition will resume at 11 a.m. with the field events and noon with the track events. All the action will be broadcast live in ESPN+.
