PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Alden-Rothenberg Men's and Women's Cross Country/Track & Field Coaching Chair Ken Hunt has announced three promotions within his coaching staff.
Craig Kinsley '11 has been promoted to Associate Head Track & Field Coach, Hannah-Chappell-Dick has been promoted to Head Women's Cross Country Coach/Assistant Track & Field Coach, and Kurt Benninger has been named the Head Men's Cross Country Coach/Assistant Track & Field Coach.
"These promotions better align us with our Ivy peers and allows us to give our student-athletes the competitive experience they deserve," Hunt said. "It recognizes the hard work each coach puts forth while also addressing the complexities within the Track & Field and Cross Country programs."
Kinsley, an Olympian and NCAA champion, has been a member of the Bears staff since 2016 and is in his seventh season as the team's throws coach. His tenure has included four school record holders, two All-Americans, three NCAA qualifiers and five Ivy League champions. After graduating from Brown in 2011 and competing in the 2012 London Olympic Games, Kinsley served as an assistant coach at the U.S. Training Center.
"I've been a part of this program for 17 years as a student-athlete, alum, and coach and am excited for the program to take this step forward," Kinsley said.
Chappell-Dick is in her second season on the Bears staff, having served as the lead in overseeing the women's cross country team and the distance runners. Prior to coming to College Hill, she was on staff at Florida (graduate assistant) and Georgia Tech (volunteer assistant). As a student-athlete at Eastern Mennonite, Chappell-Dick was one of 30 NCAA Women of the Year Honorees, a five-time NCAA DIII All-American and held school records in seven events.
"I'm very excited to begin the next chapter of the Brown Women's XC Program as the new head coach," Chappell-Dick said. "The women on this team have always had a strong, inclusive culture. We have been fostering a new level of dedication to the pursuit of competitive excellence. Every woman on the roster plays an important role in both maintaining the supportive culture that they have built and challenging each other to pursue higher goals. Women who trust each other will fight for each other, and that's our vision for this team."
Benninger assumes the role of Head Men's Cross Country Coach/Assistant Track & Field Coach, and is currently in his second stint with the Bears. During his time at Brown, he has coached 13 NCAA regional qualifiers, one cross country all-American, and Ivy League champions in four different track events. Benninger also previously served as the head coach of New England Distance from 2013-2020, where he coached four USA National Team qualifiers, three USA Olympic Marathon trial qualifiers and one athlete who qualified for USA Olympic Trials on the track. He also serves as a head coach for multiple RITC and Saucony sponsored professional runners, with one of his athletes currently ranked No. 11 in the world in the 1500m.
"Being promoted to Head Men's Cross Country Coach is an honor and a tremendous responsibility," Benninger said. "This is a program with a great tradition and I am looking forward to continuing to build us back to the level all those connected to the program aspire to. We want our identity to be of competitiveness, resilience and accountability. This is a safe space for our men to come in chasing big goals and dreams even if it means they fall short."
