Women's Crew Opens Spring Season With Strong Start at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Brown women's crew team opened up the season Saturday morning in a race against Princeton and Rhode Island on Carnegie Lake.
Princeton retained the Class of 1987 Trophy with a two-second victory over Brown in the first varsity eight race.
"We have been starting off our spring racing season with Princeton since 1985," said John Murphy, Loyalty Chair for Women's Crew. "It is always a challenge and this year was no exception. We were greatly impressed by the effort and attitude of our returning varsity and of our freshmen today. We are looking forward to the upcoming training and to getting faster for the races ahead."
Brown earned a win in the Second Varsity 8 race, crossing with a time of 6:43.6, ahead of Princeton (6:46.3) and Rhode Island (7:25.0).
In the 1V8 race, Princeton crossed the line in 6:36.6, just ahead of Brown (6:38.6) and Rhode Island (7:13.6).
Princeton picked up wins in the First Varsity 4 with a time of 7:28.3, with Brown just behind at 7:34.1.
The Tigers also won the 3V8 race with a time of 7:01.3.
The conditions at Lake Carnegie were in the low 40s with a 10-12 mile per hour cross headwind.
