PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team fell to UAlbany 8-7 Saturday afternoon at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
It was a back-and-forth affair that only saw one run of more than two goals in a row, a 3-0 stretch for Brown from the end of the second to the beginning of the third.
The Great Danes got on the board first and opened up a 2-0 lead, but Brown immediately tied the game with a pair of goals less than 30 seconds apart.
After the first quarter, UAlbany led 4-3. Brown would score the only goal of the second to go into the break tied at four and opened the third with their third straight strike to take a 5-4 lead, their first and only of the game.
The Great Danes took back the lead late in the third, but a pair by Leah Caputo had the game tied at seven with under eight minutes to play in the fourth.
Both teams had looks on goal from there, but it was UAlbany that was able to convert with just 11 seconds on the clock to claim the victory.
Caputo led the Bears with five points from three goals and two assists. Mia Mascone scored three times, while Nathalie Ahn got her first of the season and Annie Burton assisted once.
In goal for Brown, Claire Mahoney made nine saves.
The Bears will play their first Ivy League game of the season next Saturday, March 4 when they welcome Harvard to Stevenson-Pincince Field for a 1 p.m. start.
