PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown senior wide receiver/returner Wes Rockett has been recognized by the Ivy League as the Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Rockett's efforts on punt returns helped flip the field in Brown's key 21-14 overtime win on Saturday at Columbia.
Rockett returned four punts for a total of 64 yards on Saturday. His 14-yard punt return in the first quarter helped set up Brown's first touchdown that tied the game 7-7. Later, his game-long 20-yard punt return moved the Bears from inside their own red zone out to the 37 and eventually set up a Brown field goal attempt. He also recovered a fumble after a punt hit another Brown player at the Bears own 29-yard line in a tied game in the second quarter.
Rockett leads the Ivy League this season and ranks 18th nationally in all-purpose yards (123.9).
Quarterback Jake Willcox and defensive end Terrence Lane II were both named to the league's weekly honor roll for this week.
The award is the first weekly award this season for the fifth-year senior standout. Brown has now won six weekly Ivy awards this season, including three Special Teams Players of the Week, joining kicker Christopher Maron and linebacker Caleb Moorhead.
Brown will conclude its 2023 season this Saturday at home in the season finale against Dartmouth.
