Cross Country Concludes Season with NCAA Regionals

BRONX, N.Y. – The Brown men's and women's cross country teams rounded out their 2023 seasons on Friday afternoon at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships at Van Cortland Park in New York.
The women's team took home 16th place with 496 points, four spots ahead of last year's team finish at regionals. The men placed 23rd with 646 points, five spots ahead of their 2022 finish. Out of the 37 schools that competed on both sides, Syracuse (98), Boston College (109) and Providence (137) were the top three teams on the women's side, with Iona (40), Harvard (57) and Syracuse (97) leading the men's side.
The women's team ran with seven athletes in the six-kilometer race, six of whom finished with a faster time than the Bears' leader two weeks ago at Ivy League Heps. Sophomore Nimrit Ahuja led the Bears' pack on Friday in 74th place overall with a time of 21:14.7. Freshman Olivia Fraga (21:20.4) and senior Katie Orchard (21:42.5) followed for the Bears. Junior Isolde McManus (21:49.5) and sophomore Julia Schriefer (21:51.7) rounded out the team's top five, with junior Maxine Montoya (22:03.4) and senior Stephanie Kriss (22:06.3) completing the top seven.
On the men's side, running a 10K for the first time this season, junior Miles Mullins was the Bears' frontrunner for the fourth straight meet, finishing 101st overall in 31:23.5. Junior Sam Colton (31:44.7) was second, followed by sophomore Jason Markopoulos (31:58.2). Freshman Matthew Doherty (31:58.6) and senior Geordie Young (32:04.6) completed the team's top five, with junior Tommy Gaffey (32:18.0) and senior Jesse Edelstein (32:40.8) rounding out Brown's seven runners.
The Bears will now shift their attention to the indoor track and field season, which gets underway on Saturday, December 2 by hosting the Alden Invitational.
