Volleyball Starts Road Weekend With Sweep at Columbia

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Brown volleyball (11-3, 2-2 Ivy) made quick work of Columbia (2-11, 0-4 Ivy) on Friday night as the Bears took down the Lions 25-14, 25-14, 25-14.
Brown hit .359 on the night, getting better each set. The Bears started the match hitting .313, the increasing to .333 in the second and .474 in the final set. Columbia hit just .059 on the night.
Beau Vanderlaan led the offense with nine kills and hit .471. Kate Sheire finished the night with eight kills, hitting .412 and Mariia Sidorova had six kills. Cierra Jenkins guided the offense with 25 assists had six digs, five kills and hit .714.
Jessie Golden led the defense with 14 digs with Jenkins and Sidorova tied for second on the team with six.
The Bears had a 7-3 advantage at the service line with Sidorova collecting three aces and Victoria Vo and Jenkins each had two.
Set one saw Brown jump out to a 7-1 lead and had an answer for every time Columbia tried to climb back into the set. Holding a six-point lead at 14-8, the Bears scored three-straight points to jump up nine. Brown was up 22-14 and used and error and two kills by Vanderlaan to close out the set.
Tied at eight in the second set, Brown scored nine of the next ten points to take control of the set at 17-9. The teams traded points until the Bears were up 22-14 again. Once again, Brown scored the final three points of the set to take a 2-0 lead.
Brown was up 9-8 in the third set before the Bears used another big run to put the set out of reach. An 8-1 run capped by a Sidorova kill put the Bears up 17-9. Up 19-14, Brown got two kills by Widener and back-to-back aces by Vo closed out the match.
UP NEXT
Brown will make the trip to Ithaca to take on Cornell on Saturday night at 5 p.m.
