PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown volleyball (14-4, 5-3 Ivy) dropped a close three-set match to Yale (13-3, 8-0 Ivy) on Friday night, falling 25-21, 26-24, 25-23.

Brown's offense was led by Jilienne Widener with 10 kills, while Kate Sheire had eight and Mariia Sidorova had seven. Cierra Jenkins guided Brown's offense with 32 assists.

Jessie Golden led Brown's defense with 20 digs. At the net, Beau Vanderlaan and Sheire led Brown with three blocks.

A 4-0 run by the Bears featured a kill by Vanderlaan and two aces by Victoria Vo as Brown went up 18-15. With Brown up 19-16, Yale scored seven of the next eight points to take a 23-20 lead. Brown would score one more point but the Bulldogs scored back-to-back points to end the set.

Yale started the second up 9-4 but the Bears went on a 6-1 run with kills from Jenkins, Widener and Vanderlaan, as well as two blocks to tie the set 10-10. The teams traded runs until Brown took a 24-22 lead after three-straight points. Yale scored the next four points to come back and put the Bears in an 0-2 hole.

Tied at 16, Brown used a 4-1 run with kills from Sidorova, Widener and Vanderlaan to go up 20-17. The Bulldogs responded with a 5-1 run to go ahead 22-21. Brown tied the set at 23 but a kill and block by Yale ended the match.

UP NEXT
Brown will be on the road next weekend as the Bears will travel to Penn on Friday (Oct. 27) and Princeton on Saturday (Oct. 28).
