Women's Tennis Takes Four Matches in Two Days to Win Brown Classic

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Brown women's tennis completed a four-team sweep over the weekend to win the Brown Classic. The Bears defeated Dartmouth and Boston University on Sunday.
Doubles pairs of senior Ali Benedetto and junior Addison Ahlstrom, senior Nora Lee and sophomore Vivian Miller, and freshmen Dani Ben-Abraham and Anne Yang all won against Dartmouth. Benedetto, junior Gabby Soliman, Ben-Abraham and Yang then took their singles matches for the match victory.
The team played only singles against BU and took three of five matches. Victorious were sophomore Phoebe Peus, Soliman and junior Lindsey Hofflander.
"Overall, we played and competed much better today," said Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "In our first match against Dartmouth, all three of our doubles teams came out with a lot of energy and precise execution, which really set the tone for the whole day. It is always a pleasure to compete against Dartmouth as their players always fight for every point and today was no exception. Dani and Gabby continued their singles dominance in their matches by playing with courage and controlled aggression and Ali out-competed her opponent in both tiebreakers."
"For Boston University, our team had to bring their A-game to come away with a team victory. Phoebe and Gabby competed extremely well against high-level opponents and figured out a way to get the job done in their respective third set tiebreakers. Gabby Soliman has had a great weekend, going 3-0 in her singles play with courageous and smart play. Dani and Anne were undefeated in their singles and doubles play and I am encouraged by their development over the past six weeks. Phoebe continues to play with increased competitive maturity, playing her best tennis when it matters most. We are taking away a lot of positives from this weekend as well as some areas of improvement needed to increase our level of play in competitive situations."
Benedetto, Ahlstrom and Peus are set to compete at the ITA Super Regionals in West Point, N.Y. on Oct. 19-22.Â
