Ilias Stothart Scores Program Record 10 Goals in Win Over Occidental

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men's water polo capped a 4-0 weekend with wins against Pomona-Pitzer and Occidental.
The Bears had a program record performance on the day as Ilias Stothart had 10 goals in the game against Occidental. Stothart bested the previous record of nine goals in a game that was set in 1977 by Kent Rapp and matched in 1984 by Steve Ennis.
BROWN 13, POMONA-PITZER 9
The Bears started slowly, trailing 2-0 after the first quarter before Brown exploded for six goals in the second. Stothart and Jaxson Tierney each scored two goals in the second as Brown led 6-3 at the half.
Brown was up 8-7 heading into the final quarter and Brown pulled away, scoring five fourth quarter goals and holding Pomona-Pitzer to just two. Máté Tymcyna and Tierney each had two goals for Brown in the final quarter.
BROWN 20, OCCIDENTAL 14
Stothart's record setting performance led the Bears while Daniel Hadar and Tierney each had three goals for Brown.
Stothart scored two goals in the first quarter and four in the second. Brown scored seven goals asa team in the second quarter to lead 10-5 at the half.
Neither offense was stopped in the second half with Brown outscoring Occidental 11-9 in the final two quarters. Stothart added three goals in the third quarter while Tierney, Theo Pliner, Tierney, Hadar, Daniel Kristich and Stothart all found the back of the net in the fourth.
UP NEXT
Brown will make a trip to Santa Clara next weekend to play three games in the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament.
