Volleyball Sweeps Dartmouth for Fourth-Straight Ivy Win

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown volleyball (13-3, 4-2 Ivy) took care of business with a straight-set win over Dartmouth (6-9, 3-3 Ivy) on Friday night. The Bears beat the Big Green 25-22, 25-18, 26-24 to earn their fourth-straight win.
With her 13th win, head coach Taylor Virtue now has the most wins by a first-year head coach in program history.
Brown had another balanced attach as Kayla Griebl finished with 10 kills, Kate Sheire had nine, Beau Vanderlaan had eight and Cierra Jenkins finished with five. Jenkins hit .556 in the game and also added 25 assists and 11 digs for another double-double.
The defense was led by 17 digs from Jessie Golden, who also tied her career-high with eight assists. Brown also added six blocks with Vanderlaan leading the team, collecting five blocks.
Brown finished the night with 11 service aces. Victoria Vo tied her career-high with four aces and Mariia Sidorova had three.
Set one was back and forth with Brown holding a 16-15 lead after two points from Dartmouth. A kill by Sheire and two aces from Vo put Brown up 19-16. Brown maintained a three-point lead and a kill by Sheire ended the first set.
Brown jumped out to a big lead in set two with kills by Vanderlaan and Widener putting the bears up 10-4. Kills by Griebl, Sheire and Jenkins helped Brown go on a 5-1 run to go ahead 17-9. Dartmouth pulled within five a couple times but Griebl ended the set with a kill.
Tied at 10 in the third set, Dartmouth used a 7-1 run to take a 17-11 lead. The Big Green went up 19-13 before Jenkins took over the offense. Jenkins had three kills and Sidorova had three service aces in a 9-0 run as Brown went up 22-19. Dartmouth continued to battle, tying the set at 23 and fighting off a Brown set point at 24. Sidorova picked up a kill and an error ended the match, giving the Bears the sweep.
With the win, Brown has now won 23-straight matches against Ivy League teams not named Princeton or Yale. Brown will look to continue that streak when the Bears take on Harvard on Saturday (Oct. 14) at 5 p.m.
