Cross Country Competes at Battle in Beantown

BOSTON, Mass. – The Brown men's and women's cross country programs took to the course at Franklin Park in Boston on Friday afternoon as part of the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown, hosted by Boston College. The men's team finished in 13th place overall in the featured 8-kilometer race, while the women ran a 5K race and took home 16th place.
On the men's side, junior Evan Sherman led the way for Brown in 30th place overall in 24:55.2. Sophomore Sam Colton was next in 66th place in 25:34.6, followed by freshman Jason Markopoulos (25:51.1), sophomore Justin Hickey (25:53.4) and freshman John Farrell (26:12.7). Senior Gabe Cannavo and (26:29.2) rounded out Brown's pack in 26:29.2.
Emily Mrakovcic led the way for the women's team in 76th place in the featured 5K in 18:51.6, followed by sophomore Isolde McManus in 18:56.1 and sophomore Maxine Montoya with a time of 19:03.2. Freshman Julia Antony was the next Bear across the finish line in 19:06.7, with senior Emma Madgic rounding out the top five in 19:32.9. Seniors Sarah Reichheld (19:33.9) and Grace Dorontes (19:38.0) rounded out Brown's top seven.
Brown will return to Franklin Park in two weeks on Saturday, October 8 to compete in the New England Championships.
